Is this a widely acknowledged interpretation of George Orwell's 'nineteen eightyfour'?

Orwell's book was about politics and Big Government... er I mean Big Brother. He showed how invasive government could become and how important free press was. If government learned how to control the press then they could in effect tell you how to think about wars and the economy AND they could persuade you in which way to vote by supportting one candidate over another and by printing positive stories about their candidate and negative ones about the opponent... HEY wait just a minute... What year is it? Maybe he should have titled the book 2008!
