Backing up my Vista to external harddrive gives me redunancy check error?

Either your internal drive is bad or your external drive is bad. In either case, the fix for a CRC error, if it doesn't correct itself, is to reformat the drive. (If that doesn't fix it, the fix is to trash the drive and buy a new one.)
