How do you Improve the Quality of Your Breathing?

This sounds like a silly question, but I had a profound dream, more than once about an angel coming to my bedside and telling me that in order to heal, I have to Breathe, Yes it's true I have an irregular breathing patern. Can any one recoment anything? Im still strugling with the meaning of this dream , because I don't have any serious resporatory problem, just only that my breathing is short and shallow.
